Busker in the morning at Albert Complex

11 May

Unlikely to find a busker at a hawker centre like this at Albert complex and  at 930am. Was impressed with his  singing and his positive attitude. Sketched him  playing his guitar and chatted with Gary. Exchanged numbers for future  reference.

Queuing for food in Peoples Park

16 Mar

I wasnt sure as to what to eat for lunch at Peoples Park. So I just headed to  where  there was a long queue. YE JI Cooked Food was the one; and as I approached it several  framed testimonials displayed its popularity and awards, so I knew this lunch should be good.

Rice with steamed snow fish, bitter gourd and  soy sauced brinjals. Good tasting, not salty, and not oily and the offering ( $4.70) was just right for lunch.

The queue continued throughout the lunch hour as I sketched the moving line. It was fun and needed quick action. Two  gentlemen from Philippines watched  intently  at my sketching and with permission snapped the process. Jes and Roledo were on holidays here, and took back a little memory from here.

Turtle Soup at Jalan Berseh Hawker Centre

20 Feb

This soup stall here is a popular one, selling all types of herbal soup, from pig organs, black chicken, turtle, mutton etc. I ordered the black chicken soup for $6.20 with yam rice. And the  more exotic one is the turtle soup at $17.20, for  a serving for two.

A young family shared the table with me.  They got interested in my sketching and chatted with me and became friends.

Sketched this group of breakfast friends at Shunfu Market while chatting with a neighbour . The Chinese New Year  buntings are very much  a tradition in most food places during this period, for at least up to the 15th of the  first Lunar month.

Coconut drinks, straight from the nut itself is getting quite popular with the present hype about the goodness of this drink. At $2.50 a nut, it is worth the health benefits it is supposed to provide. But I stick to my coffee here, while sketching here, just before buying groceries from the wet market.

Turbaned Sikhs are not a common sight now, …the gentlemen talking with his  lady friend is a rare sight.

And another Sunday morning is here… life is about routine and habits…. Groceries, coffee, sketching and making good use of a seemingly restful weekend but CNY preps are somewhat a necessity no matter how light I make of it……..AND LIFE GOES ON…..Here in this sketch, Neighborhood folks are enjoying their breakfast at this popular food Centre. #www.sketchingmysingapore.wordpress.com
